Why do you need a data/digital team?

To Techinasia website, in 2018 the eCommerce market has a revenue of US$2,6m and the annual growth rate is expected to be 13.7% from 2018 to 2022. Also, there are 35.4 million eCommerce users in Vietnam in the same year, to Eshopworld blog. Therefore, the data related to customers that a company has to manage increases in a super high speed and the need for a data & digital team to control, analyse and interpret these data appears.

Therefore, that is necessary for companies to find suitable talents and build the team to solve this challenge in Vietnam. Also, it is a big opportunity for HR companies to prepare and deal with the arrival of data era.

How to build a data/digital team?

1. Profile identifying

First of all, you should define which talents you are looking for. Ryan Thorpe mentioned on Towards Data Science that a data & digital team should have mainly three types of profiles: Data Engineer, Data Analyst, and Data Scientist.

However, for HR departments, they can also target the candidates like Digital analyst, Project consultant, Business analyst, Digital analyst, CRM consultant or Data scientist, etc., from junior to senior level. Here are some job description samples for the data/digital team members.

  • Data Analyst

    • Analysis tools management to allow the internal collaborators to carry out the extracts in any autonomy,

2. Profile hunting

Next step is looking for the good profiles through social media, training programs or events/meetups.

  • Social media Ads - Facebook and Linkedin Ads

Paying for Social media Ads is one of the most useful ways to find the talents.

  • Social media share

You can share the hiring posts on social media such as Facebook page, Facebook groups, Twitter, Instagram, etc. You can also use LinkedIn Helper, which helps us to collect the talents and send the invitation to connect. Then you can share your new LinkedIn connections the open positions.

Using agencies like Accenture, Ogilvy, Sutrix or Mirum to find suitable profiles is also a good way.

  • Training programs for MBA and students

There are some courses that you can use to train the data/digital skills of students, including: How to transform data into insights, how to set up a Google Analytics, or How to build a powerful report with Google Data Studio.

  • Event / Meetup about data

You can set up some events or meetups to connect with other people and enlarge your network. For instance, last October DRIVE had an event to explain “How to improve your business making the most of data?” and DRIVE will organize another event to present “Top 5 projects to launch in 2019 to be a data-driven company” on December 11, 2018. Thanks to them, you can have more chance to find out the suitable candidates for your data/digital team.

3. Screening and shortlisting

You can use a chatbot for the qualification process directly on your Facebook page or website. The questions can include:

  • Can you send us your CV?

  • Which position do you apply?

  • Why are you suitable for this job?

  • What are your principal skills and additional skills related to digital and data analytics? Like Python, R, SQL.
